felting
noun [ U ] uk/ˈfel.tɪŋ/ us/ˈfel.tɪŋ/
the activity of making wool or other cloth into felt (= a thick, soft cloth) by rolling and pressing it and using hot water or a special needle
Felting is one of the oldest forms of textile arts.
Needle felting is begun by rolling up a small amount of wool and stabbing it with the needle.
a process by which something made of wool becomes thick and stiff because the fibres in it stick together
To guard against felting, do not swish your woollen garments around in the water when you handwash them and never rub them.
